Michael joined the firm in February of 2010 as a founding partner of the Equities business, where he served as Head of Energy & Environmental Research and as a member of the Research Oversight Committee. Michael has nearly 30 years of equity capital markets experience, and has been responsible for research coverage of oil and gas markets as well as multiple sub-sectors of the Energy industry over the course of his career. He is most known for his work in the Oil Services & Equipment sector, where he was recognized repeatedly as a top analyst by Institutional Investor magazine and the Greenwich Survey. Prior to joining Guggenheim, Mr. LaMotte served as Head of Americas Energy Research, and Senior Oil Services & Equipment / Integrated Oils & Refining Analyst at JPMorgan Securities, Inc.

Michael currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Maguire Energy Institute at Southern Methodist University (SMU), and on the Board of the SMU Spindletop Investment Fund.

Michael received his B.A. in Economics from Vanderbilt University.
