PIPE CONSTRAINED!! West Texas Natural Gas Prices Go Negative for First Time in Two Years

Natural gas prices in West Texas dipped below zero for the first time since 2020 as booming production overwhelms pipeline networks, trapping supplies in the region.

Jim Wicklund Comments On Pipe Constraints

Permian crude oil production is up ~30% since the lows of 2020 to average about 5.2 MMb/d. Natural gas production is up 40% though, to 21.3Bcf/d. That could continue to, by another 30% over the next three years by one analyst but there is a caveat – mid-stream processing and transportation.

Transforming Oil and Gas Wastewater Into a Valuable Resource

Large oil and gas operators spend hundreds of millions annually to manage produced water, naturally occurring water that is extracted from wells along with oil and gas. It’s a significant part of operating expenses, yet few energy companies use technology to get the most out of the process. That might change with the United States Department of Energy’s revolutionary produced-water optimization program, PARETO, a free and open-source software tool developed by National Energy Technology Laboratory and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Wastewater spill from North Dakota pipeline break was 20 times more than originally reported

Tallgrass Energy first estimated that nearly 36,000 gallons of produced water was released during the spill. The company now says the volume was actually closer to 714,000 gallons.

Produced water spill reported near Williston

More than 96,000 gallons of produced water spilled from a pipeline on a well pad Saturday about 6 miles west of Williston, with an unknown amount entering a containment pond next to the well pad.

What a Republican Congress would mean for EPA

Republicans have already laid out a road map for how they would probe the agency. They have made numerous requests to EPA during the Biden administration, pushing for more information about regulations as well as decisions regarding policy and personnel. That will kick into high gear come January if Republicans win Capitol Hill, according to people with first-hand knowledge. Likely probes include the agency’s actions on air quality, wetlands, pesticides and electric vehicles.

Powerful Chemistries Pair Attractive Returns With Environmental Gains

“Water-soluble inhibitors can cause emulsions in produced water that have to be dealt with before disposal,” Duncan explains. “In contrast, the oil soluble inhibitors can be left in the oil that gets sent to the refinery.”

Gravity to expand water gathering system in Midland Basin

Houston-based water infrastructure firm Gravity said recently it reached agreement with a Midland Basin operator for produced water gathering and disposal that will add about 12,000 acres to its industry-leading position. Gravity expects to add 50 million barrels of produced water in near-term development.

Oil and gas industry plans to defend itself against 'prohibitive' policy in New Mexico

“The rules go a little further than they need to with respect to small producers,” Winchester said. “We support good environmental regulation. What we are seeking is a good, level playing field.”
