SRBC Approved 74 Shale Gas Well Pad Water Use Permits in Dec & Jan

SRBC published a notice in the February 7 Pennsylvania Bulletin that the Executive Director of the SRBC approved and/or renewed 42 general water use permits in December and 32 general permits in January (74 combined) for individual shale gas well drilling pads in Bradford, Clearfield, Clinton, Lycoming, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, and Wyoming counties.

PA EHB Denies CNX Motion to Dismiss Fracking Well Water Case

On February 3, 2026, Pennsylvania’s Environmental Hearing Board (EHB) denied a motion by CNX to dismiss an appeal from James and Barbara Ullom regarding significant water loss on their Washington County property. The Ulloms allege that fracking operations at CNX’s NV110 well pad, located approximately 890 feet from their well, caused their water supply to fail (loss of water).

Water a challenge, opportunity for Texas

Produced water is "one of the greatest challenges facing our domestic production", RRC chairman Jim Wright told the Argus Americas Crude Summit in Houston, Texas with roughly five barrels of waste water produced for every barrel of oil.

Chevron Buys West Texas ranch tied to years-long 'zombie wells' lawsuit

Chevron acquired Antina Ranch, a 22,000-acre property in Crane County, according to public records filed Feb. 3. The ranch's owner, Ashley Watt, had spent years in court accusing the energy giant of negligently allowing decades-old oil wells to leak toxic water and crude oil onto her land. The buyer was listed as Crane Property Holdings, a company sharing the same address as Chevron's headquarters in San Ramon, California, according to records cited by Bloomberg.

Produced water spill occurs in Bakken

Kraken Operating, LLC, who notified the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division of the spill, reported the release of 1,200 barrels of produced water onto location. As of Tuesday, Feb., all of the produced water was recovered.

New report shows oil and gas spills in New Mexico have decreased, but spill volume is up

There were over 38,000 oil and gas spills in New Mexico last year. That’s according to a report released yesterday at the Legislature by environmental advocacy group WildEarth Guardians along with over 20 other organizations. While that number has declined over time, the volume of these spills is actually increasing.
