Contaminated soil discovered at the site of a still-producing oil well northwest of Longmont’s Union Reservoir has been removed after the well’s owner, TOP Operating, found and reported the contamination after discovering in May that a water tank there had been leaking, city officials said last week.

Newfield Production Company informed the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality of the spill Wednesday, July 8. The company, which was acquired last year by Denver-based Ovintiv, has reported at least two other spills since December.

Denver-based Zavanna, LLC reported the spill about seven miles north of Alexander occurred due to an overflow at the disposal well.
