Latest quake in top U.S. oilfield to hike scrutiny of drilling waste injections

A magnitude 4.5 earthquake that rattled the Permian basin in Texas on Monday night is likely to add pressure on oil producers in the region to slow or stop underground wastewater injections that regulators believe may cause the tremors.

Eyewitness In Midland On Monday "Noticeable Shaking Of Indoor Objects"

Jim Russman writes: "We just had a 4.3 quake rattle Midland. Centered just east of here. Definite “noticeable shaking of indoor objects” where I sit."

New Mexico water managers bracing for another dry winter, spring

New Mexico came into 2021 owing Texas about 96,000 acre-feet of water, and despite the district’s best efforts, the debt has grown by 25,000 acre-feet because river flows remained lower than expected during the monsoons.

2022 Conference Sponsor Spotlight: RWI [Gold+Case Study Callout]

RWI designs and builds highly efficient wastewater evaporator systems, serving all types of water including produced water. RWI’s PittBoss™ evaporator doesn't require a pump or nozzles making it essentially maintenance free, and RWI solutions address a hot topic in today’s oilfield water market: seismicity. RWI’s evaporators can slash downhole volumes, mitigating pressure on downhole formations. And the company is adding another Best Management Practice to solving problems associated with inducing seismic activity in previously inactive faults.

Mark Patton Writes: Calling A Transition From Fresh To Brackish Water "Sustainable" Is Greenwashing...

Mark Patton: "Produced water is generated at a rate three times more than is utilized in well completions. The goal should be using 100% produced water for completions. I understand landowner restrictions, logistical issues and long-term brackish water supply contracts may impact the accomplishment of this goal, but calling a transition from fresh to brackish “sustainable” is greenwashing."

Oil prices are headed beyond $80 in 2022: analyst

The renewed vigor in oil prices of late is only just the beginning, contends veteran industry analyst Phillip Streible of Blue Line Futures. Streible thinks oil prices are at risk of hitting $60 in the near-term due to an Omicron-related demand slowdown. But that will likely prove to be a buying opportunity in front of a "long-term" rally in 2022.
